What is a Charter School?

In North Carolina, charter schools are FREE OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO ALL FAMILIES in the campus area.

There are 151,485 students in North Carolina charter schools. Our state has seen a 68% growth from 48,795 to 151,485 over 10 years.

Today, almost 10% of North Carolina students attend a public charter school.

Charter schools serve all scholars, including those with special needs or English Language Learners.

A most recent report from the National Association of Charter School Authorizers reviewed 3000 applications for charter in 20 states and found that Classical Education charters are one of the top models being authorized in the US.

At Trinitas Academy, our mission is to make the Classical Education model available to as many families in the US as possible. We have seen the benefits and believe we are at the beginning of a movement.

Home School Friendly

In recent years, North Carolina has witnessed a notable increase in the number of families choosing homeschooling as an alternative to traditional public education. This growth can be attributed to various factors, including a desire for more personalized and flexible learning environments, concerns about the quality and safety of public schools, and the availability of online resources and curricula that facilitate homeschooling. As a result, the homeschooling community in North Carolina has expanded significantly, creating a diverse ecosystem of families who have embraced this educational option to cater to their children's unique needs and preferences.

One concept that has gained traction in response to this growth is allowing homeschool families to be included in charter school programs. This innovative approach seeks to bridge the gap between traditional public education and homeschooling, offering families greater flexibility and choice while maintaining some elements of a structured educational system.

Trinitas Academy looks for strategies to incorporate homeschool families into our charter schools. Based on our research and market growth of both school choice options, our school looks to foster collaboration and resource-sharing, providing access to specialized classes, extracurricular activities, and educational support while preserving the autonomy and individualized learning that homeschooling offers. This concept can create a more inclusive and adaptable education landscape that caters to the diverse needs of families throughout the state.

North Carolina Charter Homeschool Facts

179,900 North Carolina students have elected to homeschool. The movement is growing! Over the last decade, homeschool students have doubled in our state, and the population now surpassed charter schools in enrollment (NC Dept of Admin). We intend to look for ways to include the homeschool community on our campus. These strategies may include curriculum alignment, access to our classroom teachers as a resource, participation in enrichment activities, and dedicated space to gather and learn.
